Chanel's long-awaited haute couture runway always gives a lot to talk about both for its exquisite pieces and for the sociopolitical message that designer Karl Lagerfeld often communicates through his designs. In May 2016, the designer was inspired by Cuba for his Resort collection and held his show there after the relationship between the United States and that country improved. On their Spring catwalk in October of the same year, several of the models wore robot helmets inspired by the intimate relationship that we have with technology today.

After a difficult year in terms of politics, it was not known what to expect from the designer. The result was unexpected. Rather than reflect chaos or discontent, Lagerfeld opted for an optimistic show to keep his show more tame and traditionally elegant. "I wanted something spotless, clean. I wanted the models to look like live fashion drawings," he said.

According to him, the shape of a spoon was what inspired the silhouettes of his collection, specifically the shape of a sculpture from the 1920s called Spoon Woman by the Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti. This is a type of empire cut but a little lower and that naturally lengthens the legs visually.

For the pieces, Lagerfeld used feathers, sequins and fabrics in pastel tones that were complemented by a sleek hairstyle to give it an extra touch of elegance. Skirts embroidered with crystals, dresses over pants, thick belts and, of course, pieces with the ironic tweed fabric were seen in the suits of jacket and skirt.
