Génesis Rodríguez is one of the Latinas of the moment. The actress of Venezuelan and Cuban descent continues to reap successes in the world of acting, although she recognizes that being a Latin actress in Hollywood is not easy. “In the cinema there are no opportunities for us as one expects and one has to fight [for] the roles that are not written for Latinas. The fact that there are Latinas in television series [is] opening up many opportunities,”he says.

Rodríguez, who has undoubtedly inherited the artistic streak of his father, the singer Jose Luis Rodríguez 'El Puma', has carved out his own career, since he began in soap operas such as Prisionera, Dame chocolate, or Doña Bárbara; until she made the leap to Hollywood with a role in the Entourage series.

For his new job, he has traded the west coast for the east coast. "New York and I are experiencing a very special romance," confesses the 29-year-old actress, who recently moved from Los Angeles to the Big Apple to record her new English television series, Time After Time. “I'm living Carrie Bradshaw for a moment. I'm single in the city and I love it!”

When she has a free moment, she does not hesitate to visit the galleries and museums of the neighborhood where she lives in Manhattan, although given her busy work schedule she does not have much time. The role that brought her to New York is that of Jane Walker in the life-based series of science fiction writer HG Wells, which will premiere in early 2017 on ABC.

“[Jane] knows a lot about history, art; She is super-intelligent and very sparkling”, she tells of her first leading role. “The people involved in this project have a very high reputation [on] television. It is the first time that I have this opportunity to show what I can do. I was flattered that they gave me this role.”

For the moment, Rodríguez is aware that the position he has earned carries responsibilities. “We have to be truly represented as we are - we are doctors, lawyers, writers; we are many”, he points out. “We are on the way and I am contributing to open that way. That is my mission and it will not stop until [the Latino community] is truly represented, just as it is.”
