After months of speculation, this Tuesday, August 2, it has been confirmed that the new creative director of the Calvin Klein brand will be the Belgian designer Raf Simons. The company announced it via their Twitter account, welcoming former Christian Dior Couture creative.
More than 13 years have passed since a single person is in charge of all the lines belonging to the North American house, but Simons is more than prepared to be responsible for the creative strategies of all of them including Calvin Klein Collection, Calvin Klein Platinum, Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Jeans, Calvin Klein Underwear and Calvin Klein Home. "The arrival of Raf Simons as chief creative officer marks a monumental new chapter for Calvin Klein," the firm's CEO Steve Shiffman told a publication.
Rumors of his appointment started in October 2015, when Simons left his post as Christian Dior's creative director. He had previously worked as the chief designer for Jil Sander, and in addition, since 1995 Simmons has run his own menswear line.
Its minimalist and avant-garde style has paved the way for a new wave of designers, and the fashion world has taken notice. "Raf's exceptional contributions have shaped and modernized today's fashion and, under his leadership, Calvin Klein will continue to consolidate its position as a leading global brand," added Shiffman.
