In a new study conducted in Canada that included more than 2,000 babies, it was found that infants were four times more likely to develop peanut allergy by the age of three than those children who tried the food before their first birthday.

However, none of the children who tried peanuts before six months developed the allergy at three years.

Elinor Simons, the leader of the research, suggests that it is good for all children to try peanuts in their first months of life to avoid allergies later. "This should convince parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals of the benefits of including peanuts as early as possible in babies."

From another angle, the study concludes that children who had not consumed peanuts until after turning eighteen months were seven times more likely to develop some kind of sensitivity to that food than those who tried it before nine months.

"This study indicates that if the food is not included in the children's diet before the first year of life, it should be included as soon as possible," concluded the scientist.
