Like all moms, Ilia Calderón worries that her daughter Anna is not a victim of bullying at school. The Univision News Co-anchor says she makes sure to give the 6-year-old girl the tools to know how to defend herself, such as having high self-esteem and demanding to be treated with respect.

"I think it is teaching her to love herself, to know that she is a beloved, beloved girl and that there is nothing wrong with her," the Colombian journalist tells People en Español. “She is a perfect human being as are all the children around her. She is not growing up in an environment where we prevent her from anything, if she has any concern we will solve it and explain it to her in her own way, but always with respect, love and tolerance”.

What do they tell Anna about her multiracial and multicultural family? “It is in the most normal way. We never spoke to her about the color of her skin until someone told her and she asked, but we assume it in the very normal way because in my family we are multiracial so there are very white white cousins, and there are also fur cousins. very dark, everyone is treated and loved equally,”adds the Emmy Award winner.

The girl is enriched by Calderón's Afro-Colombian roots and her father Eugene Jang's Korean roots. "She knows that she is a very lucky girl because she has some grandparents who speak Spanish, other grandparents who speak Korean, the diversity of the food," says the presenter of her daughter. “She knows that she is a very privileged girl, but we try to make her really see it as a privilege and not focus on whether or not it is a disadvantage. For now everything is normal and she is a happy girl, she loves herself as she is. She loves her frizzy hair, she loves her slanted eyes, she loves her dark skin like that of the mother, like that of the cousins and that is the most important thing. I think that from there, when she loves herself as she is, loves herself as she is and accepts herself as she is, she will not have any other problem”.
