What had to be an afternoon of laughter and good memories ended in tragedy for Alyssa Elsman, the young woman who died in the incident that bloodied New York's Times Square last Thursday.
Around 12:00 pm ET, Richard Rojas, a 26-year-old man, a US citizen and a Bronx resident, ran over a group of people thinking that "the end of the world was coming."
After killing one person and injuring several, Rojas, who reportedly acted under the influence of synthetic marijuana, was arrested.
Here are some facts about Alyssa Elsman, the young woman who lost her life on May 18, 2017 in Times Square:
Alyssa was born in Michigan and was 18 years old
The young woman was in the Big Apple on vacation with family
Her 13-year-old sister was also injured, as reported by the New York Post.
Before his death, Elsman posted a video to his Instagram account from the iconic Times Square red staircase.
