After several years away from television, Fernando Colunga is preparing his expected return to the small screen. After a lifetime being part of the Televisa ranks with successful soap operas such as María la del barrio, Amor real, Alborada, Soy tu dueña and Porque el amor manda, among others, the Mexican actor has just signed an agreement with Telemundo Global Studios to star in several original productions of the chain.
The first of them will be the superset Malverde: El Santo Patrón, which will premiere next year in prime time.
"I am very grateful to Telemundo for their confidence in my career as an actor and as a professional," said Colunga in a press release released by the network on Tuesday. "For me it will be a great challenge to star in this new series and offer the public a new genre, never before seen on Spanish-speaking television."
Malverde: The Patron Saint is the first superseries developed by Telemundo Global Studios and is inspired by a true story that promises to tell the whole truth behind the legend.

The fiction, which will start production during 2020, will have a lot of action and will be produced in a very current language.
It will tell the story of a boy born in Sinaloa in 1870 who will become a legendary figure, defender of the people, protector of both the innocent and the poor and dispossessed, and in turn of drug traffickers and survivors.
