6 Things We Can Expect From Lady Gaga's Super Bowl Halftime Show

There are only a few days left until Lady Gaga hits the Super Bowl halftime show stage to perform what's sure to be the biggest gig of her career.

After some back-and-forth, it was confirmed that Gaga would indeed be playing the Super Bowl. The star, who released her fifth album Joanne in October last year, had been hotly tipped for the coveted slot, with is watched by upwards of 100 million people, and speculation is rife as to what we can expect from one of today's my dynamic and controversial performers.

Indeed, we've been privy to some of Gaga's behind the scenes processes as she plans for the show, which she claims she's been imagining doing since she was four years old.

So… here's what we can expect from Lady Gaga's Super Bowl halftime show

1. Don't expect the meat dress, and hope for no wardrobe malfunctions

"I will tell you that there will be no meat dress there," Gaga revealed during a press conference, "so don't wait for that." However, the star did reveal that her and her team had ensured that there wouldn't be any wardrobe malfunctions to contend with.

"Everything is going to be nice and tight for the game, so I wouldn't worry about that," she said.

2. It takes MONTHS to plan the Super Bowl

Gaga revealed that she'd been working on the Super Bowl show for MONTHS, and that, like athletes, there are certain criteria that have to be met before one can perform during the coveted spot. As the singer says, it's not easy.

“For two months we dedicated our time to creating the story of the show, creating the musical score, and then we created the set, what it would look like, then we choreographed the actual dance routine and then we choreographed the pyrotechnics,” she revealed. "Additionally, to all of that, we go through an extensive amount of training so that I can sing and dance for the show for 13 minutes."

Continuing, she added: “You gotta wake up, and you gotta eat it, breathe it, see it, every second of the day. And if you do that, you might be lucky enough one day to wake up and be playing the halftime show.”

3. The show will feature ALL the hits

While Gaga's latest album Joanne was a critical and commercial success, some fans were worried that the singer had hung up her leotards, wigs, platformed heels, and the theatrics that made her famous forever. However, rest assured that Lady Gaga will be singing the hits.

“We went through my whole career and we chose songs that we hope that both the football fans and the people who are just tuning in for the halftime show will enjoy,” she revealed, while noting that there would be costume changes galore.

This echoes sentiments the singer gave last month where she confirmed that her classics would make an appearance. And, from the rehearsal footage and some sneaky fan recorded moments, we know that both “Bad Romance” and “Born This Way” will be performed. We're hoping that "Edge of Glory" is added to that list, too!

4. There may or may not be guests…

While it's practically a Super Bowl standard to have guests join whomever is hosting the halftime show, Lady Gaga has been particularly coy about who might or might not be joining her on stage.

Despite saying at a press conference not to “read anything into the little bee” that she added to a recent Instagram post, it's been rumored and speculated by fans that Queen B herself, Beyoncé, might join Gaga for a performance of their duet “Telephone."

However, we do know that Tony Bennett, whom Gaga recorded the album Cheek To Cheek with, will appear at some point during the show, and the singer revealed that the jazz music icon had been giving her advice about the performance, too.

"Tony always encourages me to just tell the story of the songs and to stay grounded in my craft and who I am as an artist, and he's just wonderful," she said. "I'm friends with a lot of people, but I think that my friendship with Tony Bennett is one of the most valuable things to me. He's a tremendously wise man.”

5. Things could get political

Despite reports that the NFL had requested that Gaga keep politics out of her halftime show (claims that the sporting body later refuted), Gaga said that she would continue to advocate for what she has always stood up for throughout her illustrious career.

“Music is one of the most powerful things the world has to offer. No matter what race or religion or nationality or sexual orientation or gender that you are, it has the power to unite us,” she said. This performance is for everyone. I want to more than anything to create a moment that people will never forget. Not for me, but for themselves. That's what I remember about great Super Bowl performances in the past, when you really get lost in the moment with your family.”

6. Gaga is doing it for the fans

Lady Gaga has always been close to her fans, nicknaming the group her "Little Monsters." And, she says, her Super Bowl halftime show is dedicated to them.

“[My fans] have a tremendous spirit and an outlook on the world - on its ability to change, on its power - and I'd say one of the things I'm most excited about for this halftime show. As much as it is a great moment for me in my life, I really feel like it wasn't given to me, it was given to them,” she said. “That kid that couldn't get a seat at the cool kids' table and that kid that kicked out of the house because his mom and dad didn't accept him for who he was? That kid's gonna have the stage for 13 minutes, and I'm so excited to give it to them.”
