Reboots are a trend taking over Hollywood. And Netflix is taking the trend by storm bringing fan-favorite shows back to the small-screen with Gilmore Girls and Fuller House. Now, the streaming service is reviving the classic sitcom One Day at a Time -but with a cultural twist.

The remake of Norman Lear 's 1975 series revolves around a Cuban-American family that includes a single former military mom raising a teenage daughter and tween son with the help of her Cuban-born mother played by Rita Moreno.

Moreno spoke to Chica about her excitement over the film, especially being in an all-Latino cast that correctly represents the culture. "I could tell you a number of Hispanic type shows that I've seen that are pathetic because half of the time these people don't know what they're talking about," says Moreno. "This [show] is very special, the way that Jane the Virgin is very special."

And what's her favorite part of this series? "Every episode has an issue. When we got to our third episode, I read the script and the subject was so taboo that I said, 'We're really doing this?' I couldn't believe it! [The show] takes on anything.”

Moreno's character Grandma Lydia is one funny grandmother, who has fun trying to speak the English language and “still has her sexuality.”

At age 84 and much like her character, Rita has no plans of slowing down. "I am naturally energetic. That is how I'm built,”she says. "I am like the energizer bunny."

One Day at a Time premiered this weekend on Netflix.
