After 42 years on the air, Saturday Night Live is adding the first ever Latina cast member to their lineup.

Los Angeles-based performer Melissa Villaseñor, who is of Mexican descent, will join improv artist Alex Moffat and comedy writer Mikey Day as the newest players during the upcoming season. The trio will be replacing Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, and Jon Rudnitsky whose departments from the show were announced earlier this summer.

Along with being the first Latina, Melissa is only the third Hispanic comedian to join the long-running comedy sketch show. The only other two Hispanic cast members were veterans Horatio Sanz and Fred Armisen.

Villaseñor got her break on NBC's America's Got Talent, where she had audiences in stitches thanks to her spot-on impressions of popular celebrities including Natalie Portman and Owen Wilson.

The new cast members will debut on the season premiere of SNL on October 1.
