Ben & Jerry's New Flavor Takes A Political Stance

Just when you thought ice cream was just for those cheat meals or the days of heartbreak, it got political.

Ben & Jerry's has started a campaign and to make a statement, released a quirky new flavor, Empower Mint.

The campaign, Democracy is in Your Hands, is a movement to expand voter access and voting rights, and also fight dark money in politics. They want citizens to take action by voting or fighting against the laws.

The campaign's website states that this is not in support of any presidential candidates and offers links for visitors to register to vote or reauthorize the Voting Rights Act. The site also offers many answers to questions in regards to politics and the campaign.

Empower Mint is a peppermint ice cream with fudge and brownie swirls. "This fudge-filled flavor reflects our belief that voting gives everyone a taste of empowerment," said the company. "An election should be more" by the people "and less" buy the people."

The limited edition ice cream will benefit the North Carolina NAACP, an organization devoted to ensuring the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and eliminating racial hatred and discrimination.
