Ivanka Trump Is A White House Employee

Since the controversial photo of Ivanka Trump sitting on the Oval Office chair last February, many have speculated that the role of President Donald Trump 's eldest daughter would be greater than what had been announced. And as expected, she announced yesterday that she would be an employee of the United States government.

Through a press release, the wife of presidential adviser Jared Kushner, said: “I have heard the concerns some have with my advising the President in my personal capacity while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules, and I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House Office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees.”

With this announcement, much criticism erupted on social media with many questioning how it's possible that Ivanka Trump, 35, will be an assistant to the president, while her husband, 36, holds the title of senior adviser.

Last January, similar questions were raised as to whether the appointment of Kushner's position in the White House violated federal nepotism laws, reported The New York Times. The Justice Department released memo stating that the rules did not apply to the White House.

In becoming a federal employee, Ivanka Trump said that throughout this process she has been working with the White House counsel and her personal counsel to address the “unprecedented nature” of her new role as a member of the President's family.

Ivanka stepped down from her fashion brands in January and transferred her brand assets into a trust overseen by her brother-in-law, Josh Kushner, and sister-in-law, Nicole Meyer, as reported by The Times.
