Luz Towns-Miranda, one of People en Español 's 25 Most Powerful Women of 2017, joined the magazine for their celebratory luncheon in Coral Gables, FL this past Friday.
The mother of award-winning actor and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has been serving underserved communities as a licensed psychologist since 1985. Towns-Miranda now works in the Washington Heights and South Bronx areas in New York City providing quality care for the poor residents of these neighborhoods.
Before heading into the event, the Puerto Rican psychologist joined Ursula Carranza, People en Español's fashion and beauty director, to get to know more about Towns-Miranda's impactful work in the Latino community and what she credits her son's success to.
“Throughout my life, and with my family, we've always wanted to make a difference and make a difference in our community, which is why I stayed largely in Latino communities working,” said the philanthropist on making a difference. “Now with my son's good fortune, we're in a position to raise funds for lots of nonprofits so being able to be in a philanthropic venue now is even more fulfilling because in addition to have been giving back all this time, we get to give back even more.”
