Nely Galán, businesswoman, clinical psychologist and founder of El Movimiento Adelante, spoke exclusively and shared some tips to be productive and make your business prosper in this crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. “Life has taught me that everything will pass. We can't go crazy thinking about the worst,”said the Cuban, who has been part of People en Español's list of the most powerful women.
What would you say to all those people who are desperate in this crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic? What would be your message to them?
I am so sorry for everything we are going through. It is so difficult when a crisis causes us so much fear and is beyond our control. Life has taught me that everything will pass. We can't go crazy thinking about the worst. In the most horrible moments, good things can still happen. We are going through moments of enjoying [our] families at home, and most importantly, taking care of our health. Latino people know that, in times of crisis, money is not spent and we put up with it. Be of good cheer because this will pass. Remember that worse things have happened to us than this and we understand that everything bad happens.
What is your advice so that they can feel self-sufficient at home?
I always say that we must have two years of salary saved. If someday a tragedy happens, and we have money saved - nothing happens. But when you are living day by day, if something happens, it will be very difficult and painful. Being at home we have the time to think about how to earn money. We have to create a plan and take advantage of the moment to be ready when all this is over. What can we sell through Amazon or eBay that we no longer occupy? Can we work for a food delivery service? We have to be smart and make money in the midst of what's going on. Thus, they can practice how to solve any problem for the future. We have to be practical in the moment.
For all those who own businesses, how could they make them prosper in this crisis?
We are in a country where there are funds for business owners. Business maintains the economy of this country. There are loans and grants for small business owners and more. At this time delivery services are not enough, digital content and digital tutoring is badly needed.
For more information on loans and grants, I recommend that you visit www.sba.gov on the website of the Federal Department of Small Businesses.
