Despite the world crisis that is being experienced due to the coronavirus, love and future plans do not stop for Carly Boyd. The nursing student got engaged to her boyfriend and immediately showed off her ring to family and friends. However, she could not do the same with her grandfather since she is in an asylum that has restricted visits as a precaution against the spread of the virus.

"I really wished I could tell my grandfather because he has dementia and he doesn't have access to a phone," the girlfriend told the KOLD network. "I really wanted to make an effort to tell him [the news]."

Boyd showed up at the North Carolina nursing home and with the help of staff, was able to break the news to his grandfather through a window, according to CNN. The moment was captured by one of the nurses in the care of the elderly and the moving images have gone viral.

"It was very special," Boyd assured the network. "I just put my hand on the window and he put his hand too. I said I loved him and he said, 'I love you too and I hope to see you soon.'”

The young student will marry next year, according to CNN, and hopes that her grandfather will be present during the celebration.

Boyd's grandfather's nursing home is one of hundreds of assisted living facilities that have been affected by visitation restrictions due to the coronavirus. Currently, visits to these centers where millions of elderly people - the population most vulnerable to this disease - are not allowed.

So far, more than 7,000 people have been infected with the virus in the United States, and authorities have taken strict measures, including curfews, to safeguard public health.
