An 18-month-old baby became one of the youngest cases to test positive for the COVID-19 virus in China.
According to the South China Morning Post, the little boy had a runny nose so he was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung, Hong Kong on Thursday, where his father had been admitted the previous day for health problems.
The newspaper also reports that the baby is in a stable state and that it seems that he was infected by his parents, who were infected with the virus after a trip they made to London on February 29.
In early February, Chinese media reported the first case of a 30-hour-old baby who was infected with the virus in the Chinese city of Wuhan, considered the epicenter of the pandemic.
Regarding cases of coronavirus infection in children, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explain that although symptoms in adults and younger children are similar, in the case of the latter they are milder.
Although they clarify that "there is a lot to learn" from this new disease and it is still not very clear how children with underlying medical conditions or special health care needs would react.
Some of the CDC's recommendations to prevent the spread are, among others, washing your hands frequently with soap and water, disinfecting surfaces in common areas of the home, and washing toys according to the manufacturer's instructions.
