The world of basketball is in mourning. Kobe Bryant died this morning in a plane crash with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, his friend, college baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife and daughter.

In addition to being recognized as one of the great NBA players, Bryant was also involved in some scandals.

In 1999 Bryant, 21, met Vanessa Laine, 17. The two became engaged six months later and were married on April 18, 2001 in Dana Point, California.

In 2003, they welcomed their first daughter, their daughter Natalia, followed by Gianna in 2006. In December 2011, Vanessa filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, but 13 months later, the couple announced that they had reconciled. After he announced that he was leaving the NBA, Bryant and Vanessa welcomed two more daughters: Bianka in 2016 and Capri in 2019.

In 2003, Bryant made the headlines when he was accused of sexual assault by an employee of a hotel where he stayed. The young woman was only 19 years old. Bryant admitted to having a sexual encounter, but maintained that it was consensual. The charges were eventually dropped and a civil lawsuit was settled out of court. His wife supported him at all times.

In 2009 Bryant and his wife were sued by a domestic worker because she was allegedly humiliated and verbally abused by Vanessa when she worked at her home on the Newport coast. In the end, María Jiménez (the applicant's name) won the case with an agreement that allowed her to go home with a devoted man of her daughters and wife. Rest in peace Kobe Bryant.
