21-year-old British model Madalyn Davis died from falling off a cliff in Australia while trying to take a selfie. According to the BBC, the body of the model - known for her makeup videos on the Internet - was found in a bay in Sydney a few hours after her disappearance was reported. According to News.com.au, Davis and a group of friends went to Diamond Bay to watch the sunset and take photos after partying the night before. Around 6:30 a.m. the next day, friends lost sight of Davis as she took photos of herself atop a cliff. Seeing that the girl had disappeared, they called the authorities.
A rescue team found the girl's body. Her mother Rebecca Smith said that her daughter "was not obsessed with herself" and was a "wonderful and beautiful person" who simply "made a mistake" when taking a photo in a dangerous place. The family revealed that they deactivated Madalyn's social networks after her death because the young woman received much criticism, accusing her of being vain. Madalyn was on vacation and would soon return to England.
Anastasia Davis, a family member, shared a message on Facebook, saying that the family wanted to combat bullying on the Internet and thereby honor Madalyn's memory. "She saw the best in people," he said. "Maddie faced each day with optimism and a smile." A GoFundMe account has been created to raise funds for the family. Rest in peace.
