Chaos reigned this morning in the Santa Clarita, California area. There is the Saugus High School, just over an hour from the city of Los Angeles, a residential area and one of the safest in the entire state.

Nathaniel Berhow turned sixteen today and it took just sixteen seconds to create a tragedy. Upon arriving at school, approximately twenty minutes before classes began, he took out a semi-automatic weapon from his pocket, killed two classmates, a girl his own age and a boy of fourteen, wounded three others, and shot himself in the head to try to kill himself, but failed.

Then chaos broke out. It took two minutes for the police to arrive from the first call, but three off-duty officers in the area heard the shots and rushed to the scene of the tragedy in seconds.

The reasons that led Nathaniel Berhow to commit such an atrocity are still unknown and he is currently admitted to a hospital in serious condition. One of his neighbors who spoke to local channels commented that he suspected that the young man had mental problems since a couple of years when his father died. Other young people in the neighborhood described him as someone normal, who would never imagine that he could commit such an act.

According to the authorities, extensive investigations are underway. The family was questioned and their home was searched. After the shooting, it is unknown if a friend of the assailant or a hacker changed the line of his instagram bio: "Saugus, have a good time tomorrow at school", in what is supposed to be a macabre joke. All district schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday the 15th.

The messages recovered from the tense moments lived this morning break the heart. In the post above you can read an exchange of texts between a student and his mother on the cell phone: "Hey mom, I don't know what is happening at school but I just want to tell you that I love you and I am very grateful for everything You have done for me… I love you very much”. To which the mother replied: “I love you. Stay safe. Is Ayla with you?” "I dont know. We are piled up in the music library,”he replied moments later. "I think we're safe now, it looks like the police are going to take us out now."

President Donald Trump wrote a tweet in which he sent his condolences to the family and friends of the victims and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
