The fifth installment of the Latin American Music Awards crowned Puerto Rican Anuel AA as Artist of the Year. Said prizes are granted by popular vote and the triumph of the Puerto Rican comes to ratify the urban music genre as the most important rhythm in Hispanic music today.

“I dedicate this to my son. To those colleagues who supported me from scratch to be where I am, who shook hands with me in the worst moments of my life,”said the Puerto Rican who has fought a series of personal problems, including his time in federal prison, when he received the award.

"Life is a teaching I have fallen a million times and I have risen a million times with faith in God [I am] here fulfilling my dream and without you I am nobody, thank you," said the self-proclaimed God of Trap.

The show was held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and contrasted sharply with the controversy that arose among artists of the urban genre due to the lack of reggaeton and urban artists in the 2019 Latin Grammys nominations, whose ceremony will take place at held soon.

The ceremony was a who's who of reggaeton and trap and featured spectacular musical figures of the genre like Daddy Yankee, Ozuna, Becky G and Farruko.

Another example was the winners, such as the aforementioned Ozuna, who took home the Simple of the Year award for his hit “Taki Taki”.

The fever of the urban genre was such that even the Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez - co-host of the night together with Jacky Bracamontes - ventured to record his own humorous reggaeton-style video that roared the laughter of those present.
