Chauffeur Shoots Baby Stomach

A driver was arrested in Baltimore and faces charges of attempted murder after allegedly shooting a two-year-old baby in the stomach after becoming enraged over a traffic incident. Javon Johnson, 33, is accused of shooting the boy who was sitting in another car.

There were several cars stopped at a red light and when it changed to green one of the cars did not move. Another car behind began to honk and honk, showing annoyance. That was all that happened to infuriate Johnson, one of the drivers, who chased the other car and shot him, seriously injuring the baby inside, according to authorities.

During a press conference, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison described the incident as "a cowardly and violent act that we believe was an act of fury on the road." Detective Jeremy Silbert confirmed to PEOPLE that the baby was still in the hospital, receiving medical treatment for his injuries. Authorities reveal they hope the boy will survive.

"Crimes like this simply cannot happen and will not be tolerated in a civilized society and a big city like Baltimore," added Harrison. Johnson remains in police custody and it is not yet known whether he has an attorney and whether he will plead guilty or not guilty.
