In a new sample of the violence that has bled Mexico for years, the authorities reported the sinister discovery of 19 bodies in different parts of the town of Uruapan, Michoacán. According to the prosecution, nine bodies were hung pedestrian bridges, another seven were dismembered and the remaining three hidden in bags.

Local media indicated that a narcomanta call signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) was found with the bodies. "Make homeland and kill a viagra", the message allegedly read, referring to the Viagra poster.

The massacre that ended 19 lives, including those of several women, seems to be another episode in the endless war of drug cartels for control of territory.

"Certain criminal groups are fighting over the territory, for the control of the production, distribution and consumption of drugs," said Michoacán's attorney general, Adrián López Solís, in statements collected by the media. "Unfortunately, this conflict is a type of act that just alarms the public."

According to security analyst Alejandro Hope, this type of macabre act is intended to send a message to the authorities.

"This type of public act, of dramatic violence, when you not only kill but brag about the murders, is meant to intimidate rivals and send a message to the authorities," Hope told the New York Post. "This type of cynical impunity has been increasing in Michoacán."

Murders have increased 5.3 percent in Mexico in the first six months of the year, compared to the same period in 2018, the year in which 35,964 homicides were recorded, according to figures cited by the media.
