Architects from all over the world were invited to propose their designs to restore the facade of the Notre Dame Cathedral and a Venezuelan architect was chosen.
The design by the architect Leonardo Nepa, who lives in Colombia, was number one among 70 drawings submitted to the 'How would you rebuild the Notre Dame Chair?' Contest, from the Freelancer digital platform in Argentina, to restore the dome of the 850 building years old, which was completely destroyed by the fire that occurred on April 15.
"The design concept for the ceiling is to maintain the shape and scale of the original, but with another approach that includes new materials and technology," the architect told the Anadolu news agency.
Nepa's idea includes materials that would allow more light to enter in a controlled way towards the altar spire, a space on the roof for meetings and activities, as well as solar energy panels for the operation of the building.
Among various designs by architects around the world such as Lithuania, the United States, the United Kingdom, Pakistan and Vietnam, Nepa's was recognized as the best.
It should be noted that the contest was organized for entertainment and is not an official of the French government.
The architect in charge of the French Historical Monuments is Phillippe Villeneuve, who will be the delegate for the reconstruction of the spire of the emblematic church.
