MacKenzie Lueck, 23, went missing after riding in a Lyft car she ordered at the Salt Lake City Utah airport more than a week ago. The young woman was returning from California, where she had traveled to attend her grandmother's funeral. The student was last seen on June 17, when, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department, she asked for a Lyft car to return to her home in Utah.
The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper reports that Lueck texted his parents around 1 am to let them know that their plane had landed on time. A Lyft spokesperson told PEOPLE that there was no irregularity to Lueck's trip and that the driver dropped her off at the North Salt Lake address she put on the application. The company added that its driver picked up other passengers that same night and according to police, both Lyft and the driver of the car where the young woman traveled, are cooperating with the investigation of her disappearance.
Lueck's parents reported her missing three days after her trip. Her friend Ashley Fine told the Salt Lake Tribune that she has no idea why the young woman would ask to be taken at that time in the morning to an address in North Salt Lake, since she does not live there. Fine added that her friend's cell phone had been turned off since Monday and she has not shared anything on her social media since then, which is unusual.
In a statement, Lueck's family thanked all the people who are collaborating with the young woman's return home. "Our primary goal is to find MacKenze and bring her home," they told KUTV in the statement. "Her family is grateful for the concern, prayers, and tireless efforts of the Salt Lake City Police and community members."
A spokesperson from the University of Utah, where the young woman - who is 5 '6”tall and weighs around 120 pounds - was studying and confirmed to PEOPLE that Lueck is in the last year of his pre-nursing career. The university is also collaborating with the research.
