The kidnapping and murder of the young Norberto Ronquillo, 22, has shaken Mexico City after this Sunday, June 9, his lifeless body was discovered, wrapped in plastic bags and attacked with cables.

The boy, originally from Chihuahua and a student of International Marketing at the Universidad del Pedregal, was last seen on Tuesday June 3 when he left class aboard his car. He warned his girlfriend that he was on his way to his house and from then on, no more was heard from him, according to Expansion. com.

The same night of his disappearance, Ronquillo's parents received a call from his alleged kidnappers demanding a large sum for his release. The family, who lives in Chuhuahua, paid the amount, but never saw their son again.

According to Ernestina Godoy, attorney general, the body was located in a wooded area of the Xochimilco delegation, located south of the capital. The discovery was made thanks to an anonymous call made around 8:20 p.m. local time, to 911. “Immediately you go to the place and locate the body in a bag and it is until the experts arrive who are presumed to be the young man, who has been recognized for clothing and is currently carrying out the autopsy that will give us much more accurate data, said the official at a press conference.

Experts from the Institute of Forensic Sciences presented the results of the necropsy that reveal that the young man had been dead for 3 to 5 days and that he died of strangulation.

The Pedregal University, where Norberto Ronquillo was studying, suspended classes and decreed 3 days of mourning. This is how his brother, Aarón Ronquillo, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Rosenfeld said goodbye:

The case has generated great outrage in Mexico City for what is considered an increase in kidnappings at the local level. The attorney general assured in this regard that Ronquillo's family initially asked the authorities not to intervene in the negotiations with the kidnappers.

The kidnapping also generated thousands of tweets and messages on networks that, through the hashtags #NorbertoRonquillo and #NosfaltaNorberto, among others, called for justice.

Sadly, just three days after Ronquillo disappeared, the delivery of diplomas would take place at his university, which was suspended due to his disappearance and awaiting his return. Upon learning of the news of his death, the educational institution suspended activities and declared mourning for 3 days.

In a special ceremony, Aarón Ronquillo, the victim's brother, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Rosenfeld, dedicated heartfelt words to Norberto's memory. "God only knows what plans he had for my brother … you have to have faith that that was the plan," his brother said in a broken voice as he addressed a huge audience gathered in the school auditorium. “I am very grateful to his friends, to the managers, to the press… to society. [because] even though this city has bad people, it also has people with a very strong heart."

Mexico City has registered from January to April an increase of 237.5% in kidnappings compared to the first four months of 2018, according to official sources in the capital.
