Authorities have revealed the identity of the suspect who killed two people and wounded four others after opening fire in a classroom at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified the suspect as Trystan Andrew Terrell, 22. The also university student was arrested in a campus building and later charged with two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.

Terrell's grandfather Paul Rold told The Associated Press on Tuesday that guns were not in the young man's interests. Rold lives in Texas and was unaware of the shooting until AP contacted him.

"You are describing someone outside of me," Rold told the AP. "This is not in their DNA."

According to Rold, the 22-year-old had moved from Texas to Charlotte with his father about two years ago after his mother died.

Three of the injured people were in critical condition Tuesday night, police said. A fourth person suffered less serious injuries.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Jeff Baker said during a news conference that Terrell was also charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon intended to kill, possession of a firearm on educational property and shooting a firearm on educational property.

The two students killed were identified as Ellis Parlier, 19, and Riley Howell, 21.
