Her name was María José Carrasco, a brave woman who for more than thirty years had to face a harsh disease, multiple sclerosis. A condition that had left him full of pain and paralyzed in a bed without being able to lead a normal life.

Her shadow, her feet and her hands during all this time has been her husband, Ángel Hernández. Together they fought tirelessly for a law in favor of euthanasia to be passed in Spain, but it never came. So they finally decided to take a step that has shocked the world.

María José herself asked her husband to help her die. A long-considered decision that was even recorded in a video that has come to light after the death of the 62-year-old woman.

In it the woman is shown giving her husband permission to practice suicide, the process of ingesting the lethal liquid and the outcome, which many media have preferred to omit due to the sensitivity of the images.

"The sooner the better," said the woman, whose pains had already become a habit. Her husband fulfilled the deceased's wish by giving her a glass and asking her again earlier if she was determined. After his affirmation, the man, visibly moved, answered him: "The moment you wanted so much has arrived."

Once the suicide was carried out, Ángel called the authorities who immediately arrested him because the euthanasia is against Spanish justice. However, this morning the judge has released him without precautionary measures. In her statement, she admitted the facts and showed that what she did was at the request of her love, tired of a life that had been cut short.

The case has reactivated the issue of euthanasia in Spain and politicians from all parties debate whether this could have been avoided or whether it could be avoided in the future by studying the case. For some, this man acted against the law, but for many others he acted in the name of love. María José, rest in peace.
