Jennifer Lopez didn't have to make any effort to get paid for her starring role in the movie Hustlers because, apparently, they didn't pay her anything, the Bronx Diva revealed to GQ magazine.
"They didn't pay me a ton of money for Hustlers," the 50-year-old singer said in a video posted Monday, November 18. “I did it for free and produced it. Like Jenny from the Block, I do what I love."
López starred in the film alongside a female lead cast that includes Cardi B, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer and Lili Reinhart.
"It became a movement," he told the publication. “This is our movie, where we control [everything]. They know that they are all the producers, directors, writers, they are all female protagonists. We've been watching men take advantage of women in movies for a long time, so it was a fun trip to see things changed.”
In the film, based on a real-life case, López played a veteran stripper named Ramona Vega, who gathered a group of co-workers to steal money from her millionaire clients.
"In the movies I'm looking for now, I'm not just looking for interesting, multi-layered characters, who Ramona really was, but something they tell you about what's going on in the culture," Lopez explained. "So the idea for the Wall Street guys was interesting to me. These girls are cheating on them, but they are fooling everyone! So what she says about that world, men and women and gender roles, all of that made me feel like this could be an interesting movie, rather than just a character piece.”
Lopez, who is also preparing a project with Maluma and Owen Wilson, says she was attracted to Ramona because the character "had his own set of morals and values" and "was in many ways a good person" despite becoming " a little criminal”.
