Parents magazine featured its first cover with a same-sex parent couple. This is the first inclusion of a single parent family in the history of the renowned publication, founded in 1926. The cover shows fitness expert Shaun T with her husband Scott Blokker and their two children. The twins were born through a surrogate and their parents tell their stories.

The couple, who married in 2012, confess that becoming a parent was not an easy dream to achieve. Shaun T - creator of the popular Insanity and Transform: 20 fitness program - and Blokker, his soulmate and business partner - today are happy with their twins Silas Rhys and 1-year-old Sander Vaughn. However, they had to spend thousands of dollars in the process and suffered various failed attempts along the way. "We go through all the things couples who struggle with fertility go through: exams, doubt, pain, uncertainty, wait," Scott confesses to the publication.

Although his children are from the same egg donor, Sander was conceived with Shaun's sperm while Silas was conceived with Scott's sperm, the report reports. The babies were born - two minutes apart - at 32 weeks of pregnancy instead of 40, and had to remain in the neonatal intensive care unit for the first three weeks of life.

Fortunately, the children are healthy and are a great blessing for the couple. Of course, they admit that the first four months of the babies - when they constantly woke up at night - was a great challenge. Luckily the sleepless nights stopped and the twins are sleeping well. Today they form a great team and divide tasks as parents. "I do all the planning - babysitting, shopping, doctors - and Shaun brings the fun," says Scott.
