In the almost fifty years that the New York Hispanic Ballet has been established, many things have changed. Especially regarding the role of Latinos and women in our society.

So as the Brooklyn Dance Festival approached, the venerable Manhattan-based organization decided to host the “Dialogues” series that explores the links between Latino arts, social justice, and culture. And precisely this started with the talk Women of Color in the Arts where they talked about the role that Latinas play in the cultural arena.

The series was created by Maria Torres, John O'Connor and multi-award-winning actress Vanessa Williams and was presented Thursday at the historic Brooklyn Museum.

With Tamia Santana, Founder of the Brooklyn Dance Festival, as moderator, New York Senator Marisol Alcántara, Ayodele Casel - actress and dancer -, María Torres and Lauren Argentina Zelaya - curatorial assistant of the Brooklyn Museum - addressed the topic.
