Actress Ashley Judd will not be able to continue her lawsuit against producer Harvey Weinstein, as decided by a Los Angeles court judge. According to reports, Judge Philip S. Gutierrez dismissed the lawsuit because the artist's legal team "did not adequately allege that the relationship with the Defendant was covered by the statute [of limitations]." In other words, the magistrate considered that the actress did not have a professional relationship with the producer at the time of the apparent crime, according to the code that Judd used in her lawsuit, which was amended in September last year, to include the relationships. between directors and producers.
The judge concluded that the change in the law code cannot be applied retroactively. However, the judge allowed the libel suit, where Judd alleges that the producer affected his career after denying his alleged sexual advances during the 1990s, to continue.
We have said it from the beginning, that this demand was unjustified, and we are satisfied that the Court saw that just as we do. We believe that in the end we will prevail over the rest of the claims,”Weinstein's attorney Phyllis Kupferstein told CNN.
For her part, the actress's lawyer, Theodore Boutrous, was optimistic about the future outcome of the rest of the case.
“Nothing in today's [yesterday's] solution changes the fact that Ms. Judd's case continues in several accusations. Although we respectfully disagree with the Court's decision on today's decision, we will continue with the [other] three accusations,”said the lawyer.
The actress filed a lawsuit against who was one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood in recent decades, in April last year, alleging that she lost multiple jobs because of him.
Judd was one of the first Hollywood actresses to accuse Weinstein of sexual misconduct, after a series of reports published by The New York Times. She was joined by artists of the stature Gwenyth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Lupita Nyong'o and Salma Hayek. Since then, more than 80 women have accused the producer of sexual advances, harassment, and rape. Weinstein has denied the allegations.
