The desperate search for a 6-year-old autistic boy who had disappeared Saturday in a North Carolina town ended in tragedy when authorities found a body that could be that of the minor on the side of a highway.
The FBI's Charlotte office announced the sad discovery in a tweet Thursday, explaining that the body was found around 1 p.m. in the town of Gastonia, North Carolina, where it had disappeared. "Parents have been notified of the finding. The investigation is still ongoing, "adds the message.
Little Maddox Ritch, who suffers from autism and has impaired verbal communication skills, was last seen on Saturday in a local park when he was walking with his father, Ian Ritch, and another adult.
According to the father told People, they were walking with the little boy by a park lake when Maddox ran after a person who practiced jogging. As he is a restless child, at first he let him run to have a little fun, as he had done other times, always according to his story.
When the little one accelerated his career, the father ran after him, but he could not catch him and lost him from sight. A dozen agencies and law enforcement agencies, both local and federal, participated in Maddox's subsequent search.
The father's account of what happened has raised suspicions, according to People, but Ian Ritch maintains that he did everything he could to find the little boy. I tried to find him.
