Autistic Boy Surprises The World

Little Rafael's story now travels the world. The reason? The boy was born with autism, however, that was not an impediment to developing his ability to learn languages and now, at just seven years old, he speaks nine different languages. His case has surprised both locals and strangers.

It all started in Brazil when the boy, after two years of showing signs of being unable to speak or communicate in any way, was diagnosed with severe autism. His mother, Juli Lancer Mayer, searched for a way to help him.

“My other children developed rapidly, but Rafael took even learning to sit up when he was little. Until he was 2 years old, he did not interact, he did not look into the eyes and he seemed deaf,”Lancer Mayer explained to the BBC News Brazil channel. "We did tests that showed that he had no hearing problems."

One of the therapies that they proposed to the parents of the minor was the use of a tablet; Although they did not agree, they agreed as a possibility to support their son. To his surprise, the boy watched videos in English and suddenly began to speak that language with such mastery that it seemed as if it were his mother tongue.

"I was worried because, suddenly, she began to speak as if she spoke the language fluently, without having received classes or left the country," she added.

In order to continue promoting Rafael's development, they took him to a neuropsychologist who guided him to enhance this capacity. Thus, he was learning other languages. He learned his mother tongue, Portuguese, in fourth place. To date, he learns Arabic and his condition is better, considering his condition.
