55 immigrants were rescued from inside a truck that was traveling on a highway in Laredo, Texas, the interior of which reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The finding came this September 5 on Interstate 35 after Border Patrol agents were alerted to the travelers' presence by a police dog that detected them at a roadside inspection point.

When opening the container of the trailer, 55 immigrants of different ages were discovered, who came from Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Brazil and Honduras. According to witnesses, the passengers were drenched in sweat and were immediately checked to determine their health.

"Conditions inside the trailer were life-threatening, with an internal temperature of nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit and limited air flow," it was said in a statement issued by the Customs and Border Protection Service (CBP).).

"Our agency is not only in charge of protecting the border, but also ensures that those who enter the country without documents are treated humanely," said Jason D. Owens, head of the Border Patrol in the Laredo sector.

The driver of the vehicle - whose identity has not been revealed, but who according to various forces is a US citizen - was made available to the authorities.

This finding recalls what happened just over a year ago in the city of San Antonio when a group of immigrants were found inside a trailer parked outside a Walmart store. The interior of this vehicle reached 115 degrees and as a result of the overcrowding and the fearsome trip, 10 people died and 30 more went to the hospital.
