After the arrest of a man, Iván López, for a traffic violation, border agents found a drug tunnel that connected a town south of Yuma, Arizona, to the border of Mexico. The curious thing is that the outlet of the duct is located inside an abandoned restaurant of the famous Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) chain, according to the Mexican agency Notimex.

The arrest, which took place on August 13, was the result of a drug encounter inside López's vehicle. The detainee had 168 kilograms of narcotics in the car in two tool boxes; as well as 118 kilograms of methamphetamine, six kilograms of cocaine, three kilograms of fentanyl, 13 kilograms of white heroin and six kilograms of brown heroin.

The discovery of the passageway was made when, with the corresponding search warrant, they reviewed the KFC establishment; which, according to documents obtained by the local US television station KGUN, the accused acquired, last April, for an amount of 390 thousand dollars.

The narrow corridor is 20 centimeters in diameter and almost 182 meters long, whose exit in the Mexican part is located inside a house.

"The conduit entry point was found in a residential complex, accessed through a door under a bed," Scott Brown, an agent with the Division of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), told the media.).

At the moment, it is being investigated when the construction of this channel was carried out and for how long it worked for drug smuggling.
