A man was injured when a Miami Beach building collapsed on Collins Avenue last Monday, authorities said.

The 13-story building was in the process of being demolished when the collapse occurred, according to El Nuevo Herald. The person who was injured is one of the building workers, who was transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

His name is Samuel Landis, 46, and he is the project manager for the company in charge of demolishing the property.

Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said at a press conference that Landis was inside the building at 5777 Collins Avenue when the incident occurred. "He is a construction worker who was in the process of demolishing the building and something went terribly wrong," Gelber said.

The images of the building crash are impressive. When it begins to crumble, it looks like a cloud of smoke wraps around the area. Those who recorded videos of the moment are heard reacting with amazement at the abrupt fall.

The Nuevo Herald indicated that the City of Miami Beach had issued permits for the demolition work to be carried out.
