The driver of a school bus that crashed last Thursday on a New Jersey highway and left two dead and more than 40 injured, was driving with a driver's license that had 14 suspensions.
Hudy Muldrow, 77, was driving the vehicle on Interstate 80 near the town of Paramus when he was hit by a dump truck.
The bus carried 38 fifth-grade students and six chaperones on board. Girl Miranda Vargas, 10, and teacher Jennifer Williamson, 51, died from the accident. The rest of the passengers were transferred to hospitals in the area and some still remained in hospital until this Wednesday.
The driver's license suspensions included infractions such as parking in restricted areas and a U-turn in a prohibited area.
This last infraction could be crucial in the investigations of the case, since it is suspected that precisely the accident that occurred on May 17 happened due to an illegal lap that the driver made recklessly.
It was also revealed that the driver has been involved in five car accidents, but state records do not indicate either the severity of said incidents or who was driving the vehicle at the time of them. That could mean that it wasn't exactly Muldrow who was behind the wheel.
Mairin Bellack, a spokeswoman for the aforementioned government office, told The New York Times that Muldrow's business license was in force and that he had state permission to drive a school vehicle. According to the same media, investigators are analyzing the case to bring charges to those who are responsible.
