Dozens Of Students Injured In Bus Crash In New York

Dozens of students and a bus driver traveling on a Long Island, New York, highway were rushed to a hospital after their vehicle was struck by a bridge and homeless.

The chilling accident occurred this Sunday around 9:00 p.m., when the Journey Bus Line company charter bus was at the exit 18 of the Southern State Parkway. The vehicle had left John International Airport. F, Kennedy and aboard him traveled a group of students and chaperones who came from a school trip to Europe.

The highway prohibits buses from passing due to its multiple low-rise bridges, and the bus driver is now believed to be unaware of the regulations.

"I think [the driver] had no idea," David Candelaria, a police department spokesman, told the USA Today newspaper. “If you look at the damage, it's a high impact hit. We have been very fortunate. This may have been tragic."

According to said source, Troy Gaston, from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was behind the wheel of the bus and was taken to one of the area hospitals along with the rest of the students to be treated.

Passenger ages ranged from 16 to 18 years. The group had contracted the school trip to Eastern Europe through the tourism company EF Educational Tours, according to police.
