Surely you are familiar with that feeling of despair and helplessness that a traffic bottleneck produces. If you do not live in Mexico, Bangkok or Jakarta, it may comfort you to know that you will not have to suffer what motorists live there day by day: they are in the three cities with the most traffic in the world.
According to data from TomTom, a leading maker of car and motorcycle navigation systems that conducted a study of the cities with the most and least traffic congestion in 2017, the fourth city with the most traffic worldwide is Chongqing, China, followed by very closely for Bucharest, Romania, in fourth and fifth place. While the sixth is occupied by Istanbul, Turkey.
The next places in the list of the 10 cities with the most traffic were Chengdu, China; Rio de Janeiro Brazil; Taiwan, Taiwan and Beijing China, from seventh to tenth in that order.
But even if you don't live in one of those cities, the TomTom report was not very encouraging for practically any country in the world: Traffic problems have increased 23% since 2008 worldwide. And more recently, congestion in North America grew 5%, that of Europe 9%, in Asia and Oceania 12%, and in South America and Africa 7% and 15% respectively.

But the one that took the most worrying part was Mexico, because despite the country's attempts to reduce this problem, even building second floors on the main roads of the city of more than 21.2 million inhabitants, drivers continue to spend long hours there behind the wheel. This year alone, it is estimated that it took 66% longer to reach their destination, compared to what it would take to cover the same distance if there were not so much traffic.
