Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan, had to flee her country with her family after receiving death threats.
The news, which has been reviewed by international media, reveals that the threats began when Idan took a selfie with Miss Israel candidate , Adar Gandelsman, during their participation in the Miss Universe pageant, held last month of November in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After publishing the image on her social networks, specifically on her Instagram account, the young woman has received several threats against her life, the New York Post reports, quoting the Times of Israel. The message on the bottom of the snapshot where both beauty contest participants appear reads: “Peace and love of Miss Iraq and Miss Israel #missuniverse”. In addition, Miss Iraq, like all the candidates, participated in the swimsuit competition.
"Those two things together caused a mess in her house [country] where people made threats against her and her family, that if she did not return and download the photos, they would remove the title [Miss Iraq], that they would kill her Israeli television explained to Gandelsman, the Times of Israel said. On the other hand, the newspaper indicated that Miss Iraq, then wrote another message on Instagram in which it stated that her message was not of a political nature. The beauty queen even apologized to those who thought the photo was harmful to the Palestinian cause. But, he explained that he did it in the hope that there will be peace between nations, the New York Post reports.
