On Thursday, CBC News reported on the unfortunate fate of a Canadian man's large inheritance: He never received it due to a lost package.

Lorette Taylor's father had died and had left her children a large sum of money, which Taylor, as executor, had to divide between her and her two brothers. When she tried to do it in February, her bank - TD Canada Trust - informed her that it was more convenient to send her brother and sister bank checks (somewhat similar to personal checks, but considered safer as they are guaranteed by the bank rather than

One of the bank checks, with an amount of compensation. According to the CBC News report, the TD Canada Trust refused to refund Taylor's money unless she agreed to return it to him if someone found and cashed the bank check. They wanted her to use her house as collateral for the settlement.

After the news went viral, the TD Canada Trust removed the warranty requirement. Taylor signed the settlement agreement and another bank check was sent to the family's attorney.

"It is clear to us that we were not handling the situation correctly at the time and that we could have done more to reach a resolution more quickly," the bank told CBC News.

A UPS representative told that outlet: "While UPS service is excellent in our industry, unfortunately we are not perfect."
