Efforts to help Puerto Rico are coming from everywhere.

Island students affected by Hurricane Maria are now eligible to receive a grant to attend a free semester at New York University (NYU), as announced in a statement Thursday.

NYU would admit a special group of 50 undergraduate students currently enrolled in Puerto Rico universities. Applications for a Hurricane Maria Assistance Program quota began receiving the day of the announcement. The program will exempt tuition, along with housing, health insurance, and meal plans for eligible students.

Among the requirements to participate in the program, students must be fluent in English and be in good academic standing at an accredited university in Puerto Rico. While students won't have to pay for NYU tuition, which currently amounts to Brown University, Cornell University, and Tulane University after similar programs were implemented.
