A couple was arrested in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after the discovery of a 1-year-old boy who was found dead and decomposing in a plastic container, according to police chief Greg Tabor.

María Girón-Molina and her boyfriend, Tyler Hobbs, both 21, were taken into custody of the authorities on Monday after the woman of Hispanic origin made a call for help that same afternoon. There she indicated that her son had "fallen" and that she had been convulsed for "days".

When police officers arrived at the family's apartment, they found the boy's body inside a 43-inch-long Sterilite-branded plastic container 18 inches wide and 13 inches tall.

The box was covered with blankets and tucked inside a closet. At the time of the discovery, the woman said that the boy had fallen in the park and that he had not called the police because he feared losing custody of his other children.

However, at the police station, both Hobbs and Girón-Molina gave contradictory testimonies, according to Sergeant Tony Murphy. The man first said that he had shaken the boy "back and forth."
