On social networks, DREAMers will now have their own emoji, after the launch of one of these popular figures in support of the thousands of young people who have been sheltered by this initiative.
The GoDiversity advertising agency recently introduced the emoji of a happy face sheltered by a United States flag, as part of the Dreamers We Are With You (DREAMers, we are with you) campaign.
"More than 800,000 young adults who came to the United States as children and who made their lives here, now could be deported due to the imminent repeal of the DACA program and the DREAM Act," said Humberto Freydell, CEO of GoDiversity, through a statement delivered to the media.
“These people are a vital part of our communities and of our country. They deserve to continue working and living here without fear, added Freydell.
The emoji can be downloaded via this link on the DREAMers We Are With You campaign website, an initiative that also calls for people to contact their local representatives and demand support from DACA beneficiaries.
The program that began under the administration of President Barack Obama in 2012, allowed undocumented youth who came to the country as children to work, study and obtain a driving license. The mandate also assured them not to be in danger of being deported.
Last September, the current United States Prime Minister Donald Trump made the decision to end the program, leaving the future of thousands of young people in suspense who see this nation as the only home they know.
