The hours pass and the world is just beginning to understand the magnitude of the devastation caused by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck the central region of Mexico. The drama is also increasing for the millions of Mexicans abroad who follow with great anguish what is happening in their country, some with the impossibility of traveling to their land.
And among them is Luis Rey Ramírez, originally from the city of Cuautla, Morelos, who came to the United States at age 11. The young New York resident is one of thousands of DREAMers whose future is at risk for the possible end of the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program under instructions from President Donald Trump.
The earthquake caused serious damage to his family's house in the town of Zacualpan de Amilpas, Morelos state and now it will have to be demolished. Ramírez wants to help her family at this time, but she is afraid to travel to her country because of the risk of not being able to return to the United States.
