A Pennsylvania couple of parents is accused of unintentionally murdering their 2-year-old son and aggravated assault after they took such drastic action to prevent him from leaving the crib, ending his life.
On Wednesday, a court in that state imposed those criminal charges on Justin Joseph Dwyer, 29, and Courtney Stash, 28, who two years ago had triplets, but unfortunately today one of those children is dead. The reason: they covered their crib with a mattress which they held with 50-pound bags of salt.
According to the Penn Live news portal, the horrendous accident happened on April 25, when Stash called police at his home after he found his son Eoin unconscious in his crib.
Initially, the mother would have stated that she found the little boy slumped on the crib railing without breathing and that he had to take him to the living room to give him mouth-to-mouth breathing. However, the forensic doctor's analysis determined that the little boy had suffocated to death.
When questioned by Stash's 8-year-old son, Stash stated that his mother and stepfather frequently placed a mattress with a blue sheet and bags of salt to cover his little brother's crib. The intention was not to get out of there.
Both Dwyer and Stash are currently detained in the Lebanon County Jail on bail of $ 250,000 each.
