A couple of pit bull dogs saved the lives of two little ones who were playing in their home garden and were about to be bitten by a dangerous snake.

The events occurred earlier in the week in Brandon, Florida, east of Tampa. According to reports from the WFLA television network, the 4-year-old and 12-month-old brothers Zayden and Mallory, respectively, played without detecting the presence of the reptile.

It was his dogs, Paco and Slayer, who found the animal and began to bark at it. At that moment the snake attacked, stinging Slayer in the face and Paco in the leg. Despite the bites, the dogs were able to annihilate their attacker.

The type of snake that attacked them was the copperhead or moccasin species, as it is known in some places - and it is one of the most poisonous in the world.

The two dogs were rushed to the Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners Hospital with serious injuries and in need of an antidote.

"It's a very, very painful [wound]," Dr. Shelby Loos told the source of the pit bulls. Despite timely treatment, said the specialist, the dogs would suffer severe pain before recovering.

This news contrasts with recent reports of brutal attacks in which dogs of the pit bull breed were the protagonists. Several of them were perpetrated against minors.

"Pets are really part of a family and in this case they demonstrated that to the last word," said Danielle Martin, from the Frankie's Friends organization, who made the expensive treatment of the dogs possible. Slayer and Paco are expected to return home soon.
