What secret do Carolina Herrera, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermés, Chanel, Chloé and Loewe have in common? The Spanish town where they manufacture their leather clothing and accessories, according to the BBC.

Ubrique has less than 20,000 inhabitants and is located in southern Spain in the middle of nowhere. Seville, which is the closest city, is 75 kilometers away.

Leather craft work is an activity that began in this town more than two hundred years ago, and seeing the talent that has passed from generation to generation, luxury brands noticed him and decided to manufacture their leather pieces there.

But they all keep it a secret.

Fearing the manufacture of plagiarized styles, which is a great threat faced by these luxury brands, they decide to keep their mouths shut and ask the same of their Spanish employees.

"We have to sign a confidentiality contract, both the factory and the director and all workers," the director of the leather goods manufacturer Ranchel, Juan Antonio Sánchez, told the BBC. Each one has an individual contract and they cannot take photos or take the designs or anything related to the products outside the ship”.

Sánchez also ensures that artisan techniques can only be transmitted from father to son and from mother to daughter, since it is very specific.

These brands keep Ubrique's secret very close to them, but some of their employees would like some recognition for their great work.

"I think it is very important for our future," the director of the local leather brand El Potro, Jorge Oliva Pérez, told El Mundo. All he asks of the brands that benefit from his work is a small label that says 'Made in Ubrique'.
