The mother of a 7-month-old baby boy who died suffocated with his own blanket spoke after the tragedy that has engulfed his family following the boy's death last week.

Jordan DeRosier, 30, explained that on the night of July 2, he put his son Sloan in his crib wrapped in a blanket made by his great-grandmother and another gray colored blanket he had had since he was born. According to the woman, the boy somehow pulled the blanket through the rail of his crib and got stuck in it. The next morning, DeRosier found the boy "cold as ice" with purple skin and blue lips. "I have a lot of guilty feelings," the woman assured People. "What could I have done better? Could I save him? I can never shake the feeling that there was something else I could have done to prevent his death.”

The boy's death caused a stir on social media after DeRosier posted on Facebook a message about the terrible experience of finding his dead son. Initially, the mother did not elaborate, but when she began receiving messages from dismayed parents, she decided to explain what had happened to inform others.

“I went to get him out of his crib around 9:48 am, opened the door and noticed that he was on his stomach with his beloved blanket around his head. I took it off, touched his back, and felt it freeze. I turned him over and a blood-freezing scream escaped me. His face and chest were completely purple on one side. His blue lips. Her eyes closed,”recalled the woman, who is married to Justin DeRosier and has another 3-year-old son. "[My husband] Justin came running and I gave Sloan (…) I remember when he put him on the kitchen counter, trying to give him first aid while calling 911. I kept yelling."

The moment, the woman assured People, continues to haunt her. "Every time I close my eyes I see it (…) I am trying not to be alone because I remember what happened and I begin to relive what happened," the woman explained.

DeRosier, who lives in the town of Puyallup, Washington, added that he wants other parents to learn from their baby's tragic death. "That is the only thing that is really giving us comfort for now," he said. "We have received thousands of messages from parents who say that after reading our story they have taken the covers off their cribs."

The family has announced that it will not hold a funeral for the minor as it would be too painful, and that instead they will hold a memorial meeting. For its part, the Pierce County Police Department confirmed to Patch.com the death of the minor and the version offered by his mother, assuring that the investigations continue but that "it seems that it was an accidental death".
