In March José Emiliano Aguilar, the son of Mexican singer Pepe Aguilar, was accused of human trafficking. The young man was detained at the border crossing between Tijuana and San Isidro, California, when he was trying to illegally pass four people of Chinese origin who were hiding in the trunk of his car.

During the legal process that took place in a California court, the young man pleaded guilty to the charges against him. Now his lawyer, Jeremy Warren, called his action a mistake, as he mentioned in a statement.

"Last week, José Emiliano Aguilar appeared in court and pleaded guilty to one accusation: failing to present an undocumented on the border," Warren said in the document. "Like many young people, he made a mistake."

Warren added: “He has taken full responsibility and hopes to advance his life as a productive member of society. Mr. Aguilar thanks everyone who continues to show him love and support.”

The 24-year-old boy is awaiting the corresponding sentence, which will be announced in court on August 14.

A few days ago, the lawyer Vance Owen told the program El gordo y la flaca (Univision) that by pleading guilty, the young man prevented his case from being aired in court but that will not exempt him from being imprisoned. "Most likely, he is going to have to go to jail for a few months," Owen said on that broadcast.
